So many people talk about depression. How do I know if I am just sad, or if I have depression?

Periods of depression are common to almost everyone. The length of time and extent of depression, including its impact on your life, are all important factors to consider. Counseling can provide the tools people need to recognize how they are feeling, address those feelings, and interact with others in more positive, meaningful ways. When necessary, a counselor may refer people struggling with depression for additional evaluation and support through a psychiatric practitioner who can offer additional resources to assist with depression that is not managed through counseling.

I am worried about a family member. How do I ask them if they are okay?

If you are concerned about a family member, you should spend a couple minutes planning to talk to them, when possible. If you are concerned they may hurt themselves, reach out for professional help immediately. Otherwise, create the appropriate environment and let them know you are there for them. Be a good listener, and advise them if they should get additional help.

How do I know if my relationship is healthy?

Almost every relationship comes with its challenges, and working through those challenges with the support of a licensed counselor can provide helpful tools to set  you up for success. If your gut feeling has you searching for support, you’re on the right path to a healthy relationship! There are many components to a relationship, and if you are being treated in a way that concerns or hurts you, you should reach out for some assistance.  Help is available for all types of situations.

I found out my partner has had an affair. Is counseling even an option?

Finding out someone you love has had an affair can be one of the most life-altering, devastating moments of someone’s life. Counseling is a phenomenal option to help you heal (and I would express that no, that feeling will never go away completely, but I will assure you that you will not always feel this terrible).  In this situation, both individual and couples therapy may be helpful.

In the meantime, here is a resource many people have found helpful:
