About Me

Rebecca Bermudez, LCSW, Reconnect Counseling AZ

I define connection as the energy that exists between people when they feel seen, heard, and valued; when they can give and receive without judgment; and when they derive sustenance and strength from the relationship.

If you are looking for the right counselor, use the “set up a call” button below to connect with me. I’d be happy to speak with you about your needs and help you decide if you would like to meet.

My Background

I would describe myself as caring, funny, passionate, resourceful, strong but easy going, and loyal. I am not afraid to speak my truth. It is important that people feel safe and comfortable around me and I often use humor in my practice and my own personal relationships.  Finding the right “fit” is always important when looking for a counselor. If I am not a good fit for you, I will do my best to help you find a counselor who is.

It’s nice to meet you! I grew up in Southern California in a family of 7.  My mom rarely listened to music in our old station wagon. We listened to talk radio and call in/advice shows with therapists. I loved it and would guess at what I would say in response to the callers.  Usually my mom shouted out the best advice first. I have always enjoyed people and knew I wanted to be in a helping profession of some kind. I received my Bachelor’s of Psychology with a Minor in Family Science in 1996. After a year of working in a residential treatment center with at-risk teens, I attended graduate school;  graduating from Boise State University with my MSW in 2000. I spent the first 11 years of my career working in foster care and adoption and eventually steered back here where I always wanted to be.  I moved to Arizona in 2001.  I love it, but I am not going to lie, the summers still make me homesick.

I am a mom (of humans and dogs), a wife, a sister, aunt, niece, daughter, a friend.  I enjoy traveling, playing the piano and ukulele, singing karaoke, being outdoors, and going to the theater. I love movies and television and can likely keep up with any movie references. I have a weakness for TV and news bloopers on youtube.   I love collecting things from the 1970s including the Muppets and all things Wonder Woman.   My newest addiction since Covid is wooden jigsaw puzzles which makes me think I might be getting old!

Testimonials

Reaching out to Becky was one of the best decisions I made as I had been struggling personally and professionally for many years. I will admit that I was scared-scared do talk to someone and scared to be honest about what I was feeling and going through. Becky has helped me tremendously as she empathizes with me and understands my choices without any sort of judgement. She is professional, understanding and she helps me process what I’m going though. I continue to see Becky to this day as she offers a fresh perspective. I am very grateful to her as I feel I have a better sense of self-awareness and the way I communicate with others. She has impacted me in so many different ways and for that, I am extremely grateful.

Thank you for being you and holding me and my family together for years on end now. Your guidance and steady space in our journey has provided me a space to feel safe to be.  And to feel.  And to heal. And to be ok.  I’m grateful for you to the ends of the earth.  Thank you, Rebecca.

The best. Rebecca is simply the best at helping you make sense of your feelings. Her application of research and real life experience linked my past to my present, providing a deeper understanding of my feelings. Her counseling also helped me remove the shame I’d attached to those feelings over the years. The improved self-awareness equipped me to make better, more informed decisions about my relationships and my future.
